In the Limelight

Search Engine Optimisation is a relatively new service, and encompasses the tuning of a website to be picked up and boosted to the top of particular keyword searches in major search engines, such as Google, AltaVista or Yahoo.

There are two definable disciplines in the Search Engine Optimisation field.

The first equates to getting to the top via any means possible. This involves finding exploits, or flaws, in Search Engines that will enable a website to be slingshotted to the top of a particular keyword search, regardless of the actual content of the website. One such exploit used to take the form of 'commented' HTML code in web pages that wasn't actually seen on the page, but was seen by a Search Engine. This allowed an individual to advertise one thing to a site visitor, and another to search engine 'robots' passing through the site.

Because this discipline was seen to be on the same level of legitimacy as 'spam' emailing, Search Engines developed new technologies to block exploits as they were found. Two years ago, it was common practice to 'spam' the search engines with exploits to gain ranking in Search Engines. Now, it is very frowned-on and may even get a website banned from a search engine.

The second discipline is to legitimately produce a website, which - through its extensive content - will naturally be the most relevant choice to a visitor happening across it from a Search Engine. This is our practice.

We extensively scrutinise our client's websites page by page for keyword relevancies, and optimise each page to highlight these relevencies. This ensures legitimate results, and unique relevant keywords for each page.

We also manually submit to the 'top ten' major search engines, which in turn filter their results down to the myriad of other search engines out there.

One distinct advantage of this method is that your site will be listed, but it will also be listed with the correct information. For example - if you search 'cairns web design' on Google (click here for a shortcut) you will find Compverse in the top five - but you will also notice that the Compverse listing has a description, and a Category. This is a result of hand-submission, and relevance.
